Ideas for nights out in London

London is a massive city with a thriving nightlife. While tourists naturally gravitate towards the city centre, most of the best nights out in town are a little off the beaten track. Here are some suggestions for an evening’s drinking and dancing in the UK’s capital. For great value deals on rooms in hotels in London, visit Milleniumhotels.co.uk. imads-v2

Party down in Dalston

Dalston, which is located in London’s resurgent East End, is currently considered to be party central amongst the young hipster crowd. However, if you were to head there without much prior knowledge, you would be forgiven for wondering what all the fuss is about. The area is home to a cornucopia of cool underground bars, art spaces, and live music venues, many of which are not clearly signposted. Popular haunts include backstreet indie bar and venue the Shacklewell Arms, the New York-inspired danceteria the Dalston Superstore, eclectic jazz venue the Vortex, and the organic food café/live venue Café Oto.

Rock the night away in Camden

Camden has long had a strong association with the UK’s music industry, having been at the epicentre of the Britpop movement in the mid 1990s, and the live venues in the area – of which there are many – are the main reason for this. The music scene in Camden is diverse, so whether you are into punk, jazz, electro, blues, indie rock, or heavy metal, your musical tastes are bound to be well catered for somewhere. Popular venues include the Roundhouse, the Barfly, the Monarch, the Lock Tavern, the Electric Ballroom, the Jazz Café, and the Blues Kitchen. There is also quite a healthy comedy scene in Camden, with venues such as the Camden Head, the Crown & Goose, and the Wheelbarrow hosting regular stand up comedy events.

Get your groove on in Stoke Newington

The Stoke Newington area, in North-East London, has long been popular with artistic types, but in recent years its nightlife has really taken off, with lots of nightclubs, bars and venues offering a varied and always interesting night out. Popular haunts include the Three Crowns pub and its basement venue The Drop, which hosts left-field live music and club nights every night of the week, Jan’s Joviale Jazz Bar, which stocks a large variety of unusual drinks and snacks, and has live jazz musicians every other night, and the Stokey Records Bar, an excellent little live venue and nightclub located underneath a Sardinian restaurant.
