Founded in 1994 by the Mokolodi Wildlife Foundation, Mokolodi Nature Reserve is a private not-for-profit Game Reserve found within the southern side of Botswana and sits on an area of 30 square kilometers of donated land.
At only 10 kilometers south of the Capital-Gaborone, it is the most accessible Protected Area in the country much as it is greatly unexplored by tourists visiting the country for safaris. This Conservation Area is a home to a wide range of African game, birds and reptile species, some of which are threatened, rare or vulnerable. Did you know the southern white rhinoceros are found within this Nature Reserve? However, the Reserve also offers shelter to other species of wildlife including the spotted hyenas, Springbok, South African cheetahs, greater kudus, mountain reedbucks, vervet monkeys, baboons, giraffes, Sable antelopes, impalas, leopards, elands, plains zebras, leopards, greater and lesser kudus, blue wildebeests, duikers, waterbucks, impalas, Mountain reedbucks, giraffes, Red hartebeests, elephants and Gemsboks among others. The Reserve is comprised of a riverine terrain dotted with numerous rocky hills with the breathtaking Lake Gwithian and adjacent picnic site.
There is also a reptile Park within the Nature Reserve in addition to a wildlife Sanctuary for orphaned or disabled animals that cant thrive in the wild and also an animal clinic that treats injured or sick animals. Other facilities include an education center, chalets, Museum, Picnic sites, Camping sites, a function Center, a Library and a World Class Conference Center.
The key objectives of the Mokolodi Wildlife Foundation are conservation and environmental education, and the southern white rhinoceros herd within the Reserve is part of the national breeding programme that often contributes to the re-building of the national herd in the country.

- Game Drives/viewing
This Nature Reserve is developed as a Game Sanctuary with an extensive network of game tracks that allow tourists to views numerous wildlife species at close range. The good news is that the Park Management is also planning to expand its limits of Conservation Area up to the Lion Park.
Cycling is conducted within the Nature Reserve and offers an exceptional perspective on exploring some of the Reserve’s unique attractions.
Other activities to experience within this wonderful destination include cheetah visits, Giraffe and Rhino tracking, bush picnics, horseback rides, Camping, guided nature walks and walks with trained elephants among others.

Accommodation within Mokolodi Nature Reserve is offered in from of five well-equipped and fully furnished Chalets overlooking the spectacular waterhole within this wonderful destination. Also, there are 5 secluded Campsites for visitors interested in Camping while exploring the Reserve but other facilities within Mokolodi include a restaurant that serves variety of mouth-watering foods, a conference center with a breathtaking view, a lush tea garden and a curio shop.
How to Reach Mokolodi Nature Reserve
This Nature Reserve is found at about 10 kilometers south of Gaborone City on the main Lobatse road in Mokolodi Village. Follow the signpost on the Lobatse road and branch off on the junction at Mokolodi Village. The Site is only 3 kilometers away from this Village to the main entrance at the Reserve.
